The 1994 Brickyard 400 was the inaugural NASCAR Cup Series race held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on August 6, 1994. The race was the first time in history that stock cars raced at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway, known for hosting the Indianapolis 500 open-wheel race.
The race was won by NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon, who was only 23 years old at the time and driving for Hendrick Motorsports. He led 93 of the 160 laps and held off Ernie Irvan to take the historic victory.
The Brickyard 400 quickly became one of the most prestigious races on the NASCAR schedule, and has continued to be a yearly event at the IMS. The Brickyard is one of the crown jewels of American racing, along with the Daytona 500 and the Coca-Cola 600. NASCAR drivers consider the Brickyard to be one of the most important races of the season, and winning at Indianapolis is considered a career-defining accomplishment.
